A volte, succede di scoprire l'acqua calda (e' proprio il caso di dirlo).

Oggi ho ricominciato ad innaffiare le mie aiuole.

Vi sottopongo un test.

TROVA LE DIFFERENZE

Due aiuole diverse, entrambe innaffiate. In cosa differiscono?

Soluzione: l'aiuola della foto in alto (operazione "Un posto al sole") e' stata seminata a spaglio mentre quella della foto sottostante (operazione "Arrenditi! Sei circondato!) e' stata seminata con le strisce di semi.

Piu' o meno le due aiuole sono delle stesse dimensioni e l'anno scorso richiedevano la stessa quantita' d'acqua.

Mentre l'aiuola della foto in alto e' completamente bagnata (visto che non so dove siano i semi), in quella in basso ho potuto annaffiare i solchi dove ho interrato le strisce di semi, risparmiando una gran quantita' di acqua.

E' qualcosa cui non avevo mai pensato prima: in questo modo potro' ridurre il numero di viaggi alla fontanella per riempire l'innaffiatoio.

A questo punto, dovro' evidenziare (con dei bastoni corti) la sede delle strisce.

Tuttavia, bisogna tener conto che le zinnie si prestano abbastanza ad essere seminate in fila, visto l'ampio apparato fogliare e floreale che sviluppano. Fiori piu' modesti, o che fanno fiorire un solo bocciolo, probabilmente perderebbero di spontaneita', dando piu' la sensazione di un vivaio, che di un prato.

Vedremo come andra'. In caso di successo, valutero' se ripetere l'esperimento.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCES

Two different flowerbeds, both watered. What's the difference?

Solution: The photo at the top (operation "A Place in the Sun") was sown broadcasting the seeds while the photo below (operation "Surrender ! You're Surrounded!") was sown with the strips of seeds.

Both beds are the same size and last year they required the same amount of water to make the seedlings grow up.

You can see as the bed in the pic at the top it's completely wet (because I didn't know where seeds are), while in the bed sown with strips I watered in parallel rows, just where the seeds are, so I saved a lot of water.

It's something that I had never thought of before: in this way, I'll be able to water all my gardens lessening the times to refill my watering can.

Now, I have to mark with some sticks where the strips are.

There's something more to be evaluated.

Because of their large foliage and floral development, zinnias are enough suitable to be sown in a row.

More humble flowers (or ones with just one bloom as tulips) probably would lose spontaneity , giving more the appearance of a nursery, than of a natural flowered lawn.

We'll see how it goes. If successful , I will assess whether to repeat the experiment.
